Corporate Olympiad 2008 - Day 1
The in-house race for excellence Corporate Olympiad: The in-house race for excellence! The swords were sharpened, the shields polished and the commanders were ready with their battalions of ten corporate soldiers each, equipped to fight the corporate battle. With the Director Mr. Mohan lighting the lamp at 9.00 am, the stage was all set for JANSONS to witness the intra collegiate competitions by name, Corporate Olympiad 2008. The Olympiad aims at unleashing the hidden potentials of the future managers. All the clubs were brought under one banner with the sole purpose of unlocking the talents of students in various disciplines. Manovation, which blended management with innovation - a venture of the JEM club set the stage fr the Olympiad. The feel of the event was carried over by harmony club with its Pista Veloce which indeed set the momentum. The Trio Challenge by the Integra club and Bizaxle by the Marc club followed suit. The later part of the evening was dominated by Equity Arena by Alfa club and Picture Talk by Arts club. A lot more are in store for Day 2. The spirit and vibrance of the teams were so contagious that the air at Jansons is charged with excitement and enthusiasm. The Trio Challenge - A Triple Winner The word systems usually is associated with computers, software and information technology. But the first round of the trio challenge surely blew the old stereotypes away. The first challenge involved the participants deciphering a hidden message from a random set of alphabets, certainly a worthy challenge. Even the judges felt that the questions were quite tough, so did the audience. In the end the participants did well. The second challenge certainly tested the participant's instincts and number sense. Even though they took a while to get going, with a little bit of help from lady luck some were able to decode the correct sequence of random numbers with minimal attempts. The organizers have done exceedingly well; judging by the quality of the first two challenges can't wait for the third challenge. Harmony Club: Setting Momentum Spartans, ambidextrous, dasavathar, neurons, super10, debonair, Sphinx......... all were ready at Lecture Hall 6 when it was time to feel the momentum at Pista Veloce, the harmony club event. A total of 19 teams contested to find their way to the next round after the prelims named "Walk the Talk". The deaf and the dumb had to help the blind cross the hurdles. With the first team crossing all the hurdles to figure out the word "Motivation", all the teams were definitely motivated. The test did contribute in identifying the communication skills of the participants. But, how far this could be used as a judging parameter for the entry into HR events remans a question. A vibrant set of teams, together with a vibrant set of organizers and judges made the competition a lively one. The second half of the competition was more of the HR kind. It involved priotrizing and ranking constraints, followed by a panel discussion with one representative from each of the five teams which were short listed. The programme did showcase the organizing skills of the coordinators. The homework they did was appreciated by the judges. "This was an excellent Endeavour by the students to explore their hidden potential. But, we know our students better. The best is yet to come", said one of the professors, who believe so much in the abilities of the students. And, so do the editorial board. From the editor's desk Corporate Olympiad can definitely be considered as a wonderful initiative by the students of Jansons to bring out the best in everyone. A series of events put to test the individual and group's abilities in various disciplines. When 19 heterogeneous teams constituting a mix of both seniors and juniors took to the task, it spoke volumes about the culture of JSB. Not one event was left out; their presence was very well felt at each venue. The energy and zeal shown by the various teams is indeed appreciable. On the other hand, as one of the judges pointed out, the event could have roped in corporate sponsorship. Corporate sponsorship coupled with corporate judges would have given a better mileage for the whole event. It would also have given a better exposure for the participants. This is a small step towards a long journey ahead of JSB in reaching the heights that it aims for. |
