Corporate Olympiad 2008 - Day 2

In Quest of Excellence

Hats off to the organizers

The Corporate Olympiad has seen quizzers, art work, team work and more importantly has seen the college buzz with activity.  The campus was busy and an electric atmosphere was prevalent.

Who is responsible for this?  Who made sure the programmes started on time?  Who ensured the participation of all the Jsbians?  The answer is quite obvious isn't it?  The selfless group of dedicated professionals, who ensured that this event took off, flew high and landed safely.  The success of this event is a consequence of their sweat and blood nothing less.  The organizers gave the event a tagline of 'learning with fun'; they have attained this feat with remarkable precision.  It is easy to make arm chair judgment, but to carry the cross is a different issue.  This event has proved beyond doubt that we have a talented group of event managers amongst us.  From here we can move only towards one direction, up towards dizzying heights of glory and excellence.

Valedictory Function: Rewarding Excellence

As the sun set on the Corporate Olympiad, the time had come to reward the best.  The function was presided by our Chairman, Director and all faculty members.  Chairman delivered a speech congratulating the organizers, the recent achievements of our students and the recent events in our college.

Then the prizes were distributed to individual event winners and the grand prize to the overall winners.  Sun may have set on the Corporate Olympiad but no one will forget that these two day events have brought together everyone at JSB.  This will be the legacy of the Corporate Olympiad.

Biaxle - A gripping encounter

Day two of the Corporate Olympiad was launched in full gear by the marketing club event named Biaxle.  The program had a very unique format with teams given various aliases.  A cricket ground of some sort was drawn on which each team had to progress by answering a series of questions.  Every team had to reach the center of the field to win.  Unlike the other programs this event had a host, played by Yaagneshwaran who did quite well.  Relevance of some of the questions asked was questionable.  But as the event progressed the audience also got more and more involved, the tempo of the entire event also picked up gradually.  The final event was different will be the understatement of the year.  Firstly a series of fifteen questions were displayed out of which the teams had to bid how many they could answer.  The bid went up till eight questions.  Then one team did emerge victorious in a test of wits and tactics.  The Biaxle certainly lived up to the billing and was entertaining, a feat not too many events can brag about.  It was a humdinger which kept them on the edge of their seats.

Vidhayadhana - The Quizzing Extravaganza

The final event of the Corporate Olympiad had a lot of expectations to fulfill.  It certainly lived to the billing.  Firstly the event involved everyone as anyone could compete in the prelims and mind you, this did throw up some surprises.

The persons or teams with the maximum correct answers were invited on to the stage.  Secondly this event had an active audience support, thanks to the host of the event and the attractive prizes they had on store for the audience.  As the event progressed the host had the audience involved in the event to a great extent.  Few teams scored high in the beginning but the final round was a leveler which brought all the teams close to the coveted first prize.  The winners had to be decided on tie breaks.  The final event was perfect icing on a delicious event called the corporate Olympiad.

Equity Arena

Alpha club created ripples by conducting the event called "equity arena" in a stupendous way.  The organizers of the club came out as raging bulls and conducted the event in a successful way without any chaos.

The first round was associated with quiz which is generally conducted to eliminate the teams and to bring in the best from each and every individual.

From 18 teams, 4 teams were qualified for the final round.  This round is some what different and they tried to successfully bring in the exact picture of how trading takes place in a stock exchange.  The coordinators of this club worked diligently and meticulously so as to minimize errors, bu they could do only to a certain extent.  Since some of the rules were not self explanatory the participants were not comfortable at the beginning, but later they managed to cope with the rest of the rounds.

It has certain drawbacks too, since there is no alternative plan, they went in for physical or traditional way of trading instead of online trading.  The next drawback was poor time management.  Apart from all these drawbacks, the teams participated with great enthusiasm.

Manovation - A Visionary Approach

The event which kicked off Corporate Olympiad, most certainly set the trend for the whole day.  The competition involved participants making a short pitch on their business plan.  A lot of creative ideas were presented.  The business plans varied from oxygen parlors to mobile shoe polish outlets.  The judges short listed sixteen ideas or business plans for day two.  On day two the participants were asked to do a five minute presentation on their ideas.  Then the plans were tested for their feasibility, sustainability etc by the judges.  The participants were thoroughly tested as they had to face a barrage of questions from the judges.  Lack of corporate presence was deeply felt for this was a good platform to showcase the entrepreneurial bent of the JSBians.

Trio challenge - A fitting finale

The final leg of the Trio challenge was held at the open stage.  The event just like the previous Marc club event had a sort of layout designs drawn on the floor.  The participants had to progress through the ladder and reach the ultimate prize.  The rules laid gave equal opportunity to all, as it did not allow some of the quick starters to get away with things.  The program did struggle because of the blustery conditions, but they went ahead despite the natural elements not being favorable to them.  The organizers helped the participants with a lot of clues, as the quiz got tougher only the best could survive.  The entire Trio challenge event was great, right from the beginning to the end and never faded in intensity.

Arts Club: Creativity Unleashed

The ability to express ones thought and opinions in the form pictures, sculputres etc has always been recognized and rewarded through out history.  The arts club event did just that.  Its relevance in mangement has always been debated but creativity does not grow on trees, it has to be nurtures and brought out.

This event has aimed to do that.  One would normally associate an event with loud speakers or jarring music but this event was punctuated by quietness and soulful music which was a refreshing change.  The competition had two rounds.  The first round held on day one had participants drawing figures denoting 'team work' which was the topic given to them.  It was astounding to see that something simple as team work could have so many forms.  Day two was all about perception; the short listed participants were shown two pictures and were asked to draw with a theme ranging from war to famine to beauty.  The paintings were to be judged on basis of creativity, clarity of expression and the theme which they needed to express.  All these activities unlocked creativity and certainly explored the inner mind of the participants.  There is a lot art can teach management, the arts club event certainly proves this point.

The final Momentum: Pista Veloce

The final round of Pista Veloce pictured a battle of words.  The selected teams used their gift of the gab to fight for and against the topic, "Is Poaching for talent ethical".  This competition did test the communication skills and reasoning ability of the competitors.  Although strong points were put forth by the teams, whether all the points were relevant with respect to the topic of discussion remains debatable.  The Zeus bagged the first prize in Pista Veloce.  The success of the event could be attributed to the team spirit and the coordination of the organizers.  It was a fruition of their hard work and dedication.
