JSBians-Speak:
It was a usual Sunday for us, but the day dawned differently for the students of Ponnakkani school. We were looking forward to their arrival at JSB. We had invited them to a One-day camp at our campus.
At 10 am, 40 girls and boys alighted from the van, bivirkninger amidst a thunderous applause from us. We formally welcomed the students and the three teachers who had accompanied them.
The activities for the forenoon included a formal introduction of the social initiative of the students, followed by a memorable mimicry show by one of the JSBians. The school children actively participated in the role plays, skits and classroom games.
After a sumptuous lunch, the school students were taken into our computer lab. Each student was guided by one JSB volunteer, and more than an hour was spent on learning to draw with MS-Paint. Each student’s handiwork on the computer was taken out as a print-out and given to them with their names printed on it.
This was followed by an ‘entertainment’ session, wherein Charlie Chaplin and Tom & Jerry movie clips were screened. We could hear roars of laughter, and unadulterated joy pervaded our classrooms.
The last event of the day was an outdoor game, where active participation from all the students were noticed. By now, they had let go of their inhibitions, and put in all their energies into the game.
Every students was sponsored a gift hamper by the institute, and they bade us good bye at 4.30 pm. However, all of us stood with the school children for a group photo, and the memory is still etched fresh. The day came to an end and we were happy to see the children leaving our campus, with a big smile on their faces. We bid them adieu. This was definitely a great learning experience for all of us.
