Description:

A group of three students from the 2015 batch participated in FIRMA'14, a National Level Management Meet organized by Heber Institute of Management Students, during 24th and 25th September 2014.

Started the session with the question of what is the difference between savings and investment.  In the course of the session he explained about the social security.  In the process he explained about the basics of mutual fund with the explanation of how NAV is calculated.  He also explained the mechanics of how mutual fund works!

Mr. Parvathinathan illustrated the role of an asset management company and fees charged by asset management companies for their services.  While explaining about the types of mutual funds through audio-visual, he suggested which type of mutual fund the investers may prefer.  He ended the session by explaining the performance of mutual fund industry in India.  The session was interactive.

Mr. Maruthamuthu started his session by asking what is the meaning of foreign exchange? why foreign trade?  The students immediately picked up their interaction with the resource person.  Mr. Maruthamuthu explained the mechanics of foreign exchange by discussing the present level of forex reserve and the level of forex reserve in 1994.

In the course of his lecture he explained the practical differences between Balance of Trade and Balance of Payments.  Categorization of banks as "A", "B" and "C" with respect to foreign exchange transcation was explained by the resource person.

Viewing of forex transactions in six different angles namely, Trade Control, Exchange Control, Individual bank's policy, ECGC, Uniform Customs and Practice for Documentary Credit (UCPDC) and Foreign Exchange Dealers Association of India (FEDAI) was explained by Mr. Maruthamuthu with the citation of practical examples.

The students made the session live by their good number of interactions.

Description:

Mr. Surya Subrahmanyam, Assistant General Manager, Integrated Risk Management Department, Lakshmi Vilas Bank, Chennai discussed about the factors that should be considered in risk management with respect to banking.  In the course of the session he was emphasizing the importance of having knowledge and analysis of financial risk, business risk and management risk.  Students made clarifications with Mr. Surya Subrahmanyam with respect to the above points.

The session helped the students to have a practical knowledge about the various technical jargons in the credit risk management.

The Guest lecture on distribution management in FMCG and services industries jointly delivered by Mr. A. Narayanasamy, AVP & Regional Manager, Bharathi Axa general insurance and  Mr.R. Vijay Daniel, Area Sales Manager, Bharathi Axa general insurance gave us a detailed description on types of distribution channels used and conflict management in channels. The guests provided a detailed description of various channel members involved in the process of distribution of FMCG and Insurance services. Later, the margin terms to distributors, their profit sharing ratios, Digital advertising allowance for service products and claiming procedures were also explained.
