Alfa Club conducted its 2nd event of this semester on 8th February 2012. The event is named “RBI’s Explorers”. It’s a speculate game with application of aptitude skills. The participants were given 4 stations to transact virtual FOREX. The event consists of five rounds and ten teams participated in the same.

It was on a very happy and exuberant note that the Chief Guest of the 5th Graduation Day @ JSB, started his Graduation Day address on Dec 30, 2011. Padma Shri K Raghavendra Rao, CMD of Orchid Chemicals and Pharmaceuticals Limited, Chennai, stated upfront that we all lived in “interesting times” – an open, liberalized and a globalised world. And to boot this, he told the Graduates of the 2009 & 2010 Batches, that age was on their side, and they can look forward to nothing less than 50 years of work-life. And just imagine the things that they can fashion during this long innings, exclaimed Shri Rao.
The 150 Graduates listened with interest and rapt attention, when the Chief Guest narrated to them his secret of success – the Power of Five:be passionate in your life, always have a pet project in mind, persevere, develop the ability to anticipate change, and always be open and be humble enough to lea from others.
On his variety of experiences in the corporate world, including his founding of Orchid Chemicals and Pharmaceuticals, Mr Rao stated that what really carries the day for any professional are two significant attributes, among others: have a strong work ethic, and have the willingness to challenge the status quo.
The Graduation Day Address pepped up the Graduates, and Mr Rao, in his characteristically enthusiastic manner, wished them all the best in their career, and posited that they can look forward to a great future for themselves and for India!

The Interaction with Alumnus on “A Career in Retailing for MBAs”, by Ms.G.Surya Saraswathy (of the 2009 Batch), threw light on the expectations from an MBA, when he / she is entering the Retail industry. She is with Mom & Me, Bangalore, and shared her post-MBA corporate experiences.
In this interactive session, Ms Saraswathy gave the students of the 2012 Batch, a comprehensive exposure about Retailing, its functions, formats and the contemporary trends. Issues relating to the importance of retailing and its growth in Indian market were given special attention, given the current debates on FDI in India. In addition to this, there was a discussion on the various functions of retailing like supply chain management, customer relationship, visual merchandising and other supporting functions like HR, Finance, Operations and Marketing.
There was a free-wheeling discussion after this, on the career opportunities in retailing for MBA students. She wished the students all the best and hoped to see many of them in the retail domain soon.
